Taking an adventure of your own? The Outdoor Adventure rental center, located in the OASIS, offers a comprehensive collection of outdoor gear, allowing us to provide your equipment needs for backpacking, camping, mountain biking, kayaking, and canoeing—all at low prices. Equipment rental is available to the University and greater Akron communities. Our renting options include daily and weekend rentals, and equipment can be rented for any length of time by combining days and weekends. Group pricing and extended rentals lasting more than 10 days are available upon request. Rentals can be made any weekday between 3PM and 7PM. Daily rates apply Monday through Thursday. Equipment rented for a day is to be returned to the OASIS during regular hours the next day. Weekend rates apply Friday through Sunday. Reservations can only be made in the OASIS office during regular hours and full payment is due at the time the reservation is made. If a reservation is cancelled more than 2 days in advance, a full refund will be issued.
For all other cancellations a partial refund equal to half of the rental charge will be issued. Refunds can be applied immediately to a credit card if the cardholder is present; otherwise, it can take up to 2 weeks for a check to be issued. There are no refunds for equipment that is picked up late or not at all. It is responsibility of the renter to know how to use the equipment. The renter may ask a staff member for clarification about the proper use of equipment; however, the staff member explanation is not a substitute for proper training from a certified instructor. No equipment will be considered returned until it is inspected. The sun makes the water sparkle. As you cut into the river with your paddle, a Great Blue Heron flies just above the water. In Miamisburg, this picture doesn’t have to be a pleasant daydream. It can be a reality. In Miamisburg and surrounding areas, the local watershed includes the Great Miami, Stillwater and Mad rivers; and is known for its water supply, recreation and high-quality streams. There are plenty of kayaking and canoeing lessons, rentals and other resources in the area, including Great Miami Outfitters in downtown Miamisburg.

If so, one of our adventure trips may be for you! Outdoor Adventures offers a variety of overnight and day trips throughout the year. Most trips are designed for beginner and novice participants and a few require pre-requisite experience or knowledge. The Outdoor Adventure Program is staffed by skilled outdoor professionals as well as students aspiring to become outdoor professionals. Our instructors hold many professional certifications by nationally recognized organizations such as the American Mountain Guides Association, American Canoe Association, Leave No Trace and Wilderness Medicine, and Red Cross Wilderness First Aid (WFA). Cleveland Rock GymFri 3/3 | Travel up to Cleveland Rock Gym where there is 5,000 ft2 of climbing with top rope and bouldering areas.  Transportation is provided, the trip will meet at the Rec Center and drive up to the gym for an evening climb. Join us for an afternoon horseback riding adventure at Camp Y-Noah.  Camp Y-Noah sits on 250 acres and the guided western style trail ride winds through miles of beautiful terrain that extends throughout the property.  Transportation from the Rec Center is included. Backpacking in Southern OhioFri 3/17 – Sun 3/19 |  If you want to see a different side of Ohio or just unplug for a while, join us on this two-night backcountry adventure. All equipment, food and travel will be provided – you just have to come ready to walk. Be prepared for moderate hiking and 5-10 mile days. Camping & Paddling at West BranchFri 4/7 - 4/9 | Get out of downtown Akron and enjoy the 2,650 acre lake of West Branch State Park.  Situated on the glaciated plateau of northeastern Ohio, the park's 5,379 acres of meadows and woodlots provide an excellent backdrop for camping, hiking, and paddling.

Come try in the beautiful Cuyahoga National Park.  Basic instruction is provided and area is appropriate for beginners.  Bikes are available or you can bring your own. Stand Up PaddleboardingSun 4/23 |  If you've never tried Stand Up Paddleboarding your missing out! Take a day to explore paddling from a new perspective, and don't be surprised if you fall in love. White Water RaftingSat 4/29 |  Whether this is your first white water rafting trip or you're an experienced rafter, the Lower Youghiogheny, in the heart of The Laurel Highlands, is a blast!  The trip is 7.5 miles of Class III - IV whitewater rapids, with a stop halfway through the day for a deli style lunch. Transportation is provided from the Rec Center. Day Hike and Yoga in the CVNPSun 4/30 | Take a day to hike and yoga along rivers, through forest, and get out of downtown Akron.
Lunch and travel are provided. Registration for all trips and programs takes place in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the OASIS during regular operating hours. Registration for all programming begins on the first day of classes for each semester. Most trips have an associated fee to participate. Our goal is to provide high-quality adventure programming and instruction at the lowest cost possible. Payment in full is required to register for a program—we accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, Zip Card, personal check, and cash. If a program does not have a fee, it still may require registration. See program description for details. Refunds for programs will be issued up to the registration deadline or the Monday before the event, whichever is sooner. Due to associated costs with program planning and scheduling, refunds will not be issued past the applicable deadline. If a program is cancelled due to weather or lack of participation, a full refund will be issued.
