This program is called Backpack Initiative to Fight Hunger. With the economy the way it is today, some of our children may go home to a house with no food. These children have breakfast and lunch at school during the week, but we are uncertain what happens on the weekends.
Some children may go with little or no food. We would like to help solve this problem. A letter went home with each student asking families to sign and return a form if they would like their child to participate in the program. There are no eligibility requirements. The program will service any family in need. The program will send a bag home with each participating child every Friday. Each bag will include 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 snacks. Within the offerings there will also be 2 fruits/vegetables and 2 proteins. (A one-day example: breakfast bar, individual mac & cheese, applesauce, pretzels.) We will not be asking the Fox Chapel School District for any money. We are hoping that our needs can be met through staff, community, business and corporate donations.
